Before your court date
Bring the paperwork you were given, such as the summons, citation, or bail papers, and a photo ID. Plan extra time for parking and security screening. If you have not spoken with a lawyer yet, call us before the date if you can. The first conversation is free.
How to look up your case
Rhode Island state cases can be searched on the Rhode Island Judiciary public portal. Massachusetts state cases are on MassCourts. Federal cases are on PACER. Each court guide links to the right one.
Frequently asked questions
The court is printed on your summons, citation, or bail paperwork. In Rhode Island, District Court cases are heard in the division that covers the city or town where the case arose. In Massachusetts, the District Court that covers that town usually hears it. Call us and we will tell you.
Usually yes for a criminal case, especially at the first appearance. Some later dates can be handled by your lawyer alone, but only when the court allows it. We tell you which dates you must attend.
Missing a court date can lead to a warrant and new charges. If it has already happened, call us right away so we can work on getting you back before the court.
